Preparing for Kingdom Rock VBS

We are gearing up for Vacation Bible School and I thought it would be helpful to re-post some of the things I wrote last year on how to prepare for VBS. This week we will be exploring an answer to the question “How do I invite my neighbor to VBS?” Let me present you with four options that I think would be helpful. Feel free to use one, all, or something I have not thought of! These ideas are not in any particular order.

  1. Cheap Date Night

This may be my favorite and most effective. Amanda and I do not have kids, but we do understand the impact of a good “date night” can play on our marriage. Explain to your neighbors/friends that for FREE, they can have date night for 4 nights. Share with them that the following restaurants are within an appropriate driving distance for a date night:

    Ranch Frosties
    Tribes Ale House
Bulldog Ale House (this place has some great specials during the week)
    Charleston's
    Anything in the Frankfort area....

  2. Chauffeur Their Kids

This idea couples well with the date night idea - offer to take their kids for them at least one night, if not all nights. Are you leaving from essentially the same area? Maybe your neighbor or friend is not looking forward to the drive or it would be tight to get the kids here in time. Reach out to them and offer to take their kids to VBS for them. This could go a long way for some people.

  3. Email The Registration Link

Simply forward this link (www.mdchurch.us/vbs) to them in a personalized email. This is slightly more informal, but for the neighbors or friends that you may not have the closest relationship with.

  4. Let the Kids do the Talking

Get your kids excited about VBS. If they are excited about something, kids will then want to invite “their people” to the same thing. Explain to your kids the importance of learning about the Bible during this time and the various fun things we will be learning.
